Byzantine-Inspired Crosses

PEACE FROM ABOVE:

Byzantine Crosses

In the fourth century, Constantine the Great forever altered the course of history. Officially ending the persecution of Christians in 313 AD, he paved the way for the widespread acceptance of what had been up until then an underground faith. Despite many attempts to eradicate Christianity from Roman lands, this faith entrusted to the most common and least powerful of people would rise up to shape the destiny of the Roman Empire and the Western world.

Constantine’s vision for his empire, however, did not end there. While Old Rome had long been the heart of the expansive Roman Empire, Constantine boldly established a new capital city in 330 AD: Nova Roma—the magnificent imperial city of Constantinople—known today as Istanbul, Türkiye.

Strategically situated at the mouth of the mighty Bosporus, Constantine’s new city created a cultural bridge between Europe and Asia. Constantinopolitan society emerged as the Empire’s new centre of civilization: a captivating synthesis of Eastern and Western influences in a vibrant cosmopolitan atmosphere that would resonate throughout the ages.

Our collection of solid gold Byzantine-style Crosses draws inspiration from the centuries-long cultural flourishing of the Eastern Roman Empire, inaugurated by Constantine the Great and perpetuated by seekers of truth, wisdom and beauty. Two of our crosses are named in homage to great Byzantine Emperors. The rest have been paired with the cherished names of famed cities of Asia Minor—the region of provinces to the East of Constantinople. We encapsulate these living memories in rare and exquisite Byzantine artistic interpretations of the cross, the enduring symbol of heavenly peace and eternal victory.
