Treasures of Byzantium is a creative project that was conceived to revive the craftsmanship of the renowned workshops of the Eastern Roman Empire. Our collection of personal adornments has been meticulously curated to visually reflect the brilliant cultural milieu of a vast empire that spanned time and space—an empire that gave birth to an enduring artistic vision that challenges us even today with its stoic beauty and rich symbolism. We hope that each piece created by our modern-day skilled artisans will become a cherished possession—an heirloom that evokes the endless pursuit of beauty and embodies our innate desire to seek out that which is eternally perfect by embracing and transcending our own imperfection.
Each piece in our collection is the result of collaborative input from a group of distinguished artisans, archaeologists, theologians, and philosophers. This interdisciplinary approach reflects the true splendour of Byzantium: the marriage of contemplation and action into one dynamic event.
Our pieces are created following a small-series production approach. We believe that true artistic expression demands both patience and passion. We are proud to say that all our jewellery is hallmarked by The Goldsmiths' Company Assay Office, London.
Our goal is to celebrate, share, and promote the artistic expressions of Byzantine culture. Looking back in time, we seek our inspiration amongst the precious fragments that have been preserved, while also yearning to capture with our imagination the unknown treasures that have been lost to history forever.
We invite you to join us on a noetic pilgrimage that begins in Constantinople, the Queen of Cities, the legendary imperial epicentre that hosted centuries of political, cultural, theological, philosophical, technological and artistic development, tracing with us the paths of light that once radiated across the oecumene to the farthest reaches of the known world.
Along the way, you may find your own treasure—a wearable piece of art that connects us with the legacy of another time and place, and yet is timeless in its own significance and beauty.
Deriving inspiration from several Byzantine artifacts, the ‘Treasures of Byzantium’ emblem attempts to weave together iconic symbols celebrated for centuries. At its center stands a monogrammed letter ‘T’—a reference to our project—that transforms into the silhouette of the historic Crown of Saint Stephen, also known as the Holy Crown of Hungary. This Crown is distinguishable by its uniquely bent cross and classic Byzantine imperial hanging pendants. The intersection of the ‘T’ and the crown creates a characteristic late-Byzantine emblem—the Palaiologan tetragrammatic cross adorned with the Greek letter beta. Together, these elements represent the extraordinary accomplishments and eternal legacy of a civilization unlike any other the world has known. Each piece in our collection embodies this rich heritage, offering a timeless elegance that transcends fleeting trends.
